Hillside Cottage

‘Hillside Cottage,’ was built in 1864 and is a heritage, stone miners cottage. Surrounded by verandas which overlook the established gardens full of lavender, roses, herbs, grape vines, fruit trees and spreading lawns. The three bedrooms in this beautiful cottage can sleep up to six, in either, the double room, double plus single room or the downstairs cellar with two single beds. With two open fire places, plus gas heating and reverse cycle air-conditioning, comfort is provided all year round. This romantic cottage contains two comfy and cosy sitting areas with a parlour and a music/reading room (Website hidden by Airbnb) The country style kitchen has room for all, with an electric stove and is fully equipped for your stay. An inside bathroom contains a shower next to the bath while the second outside bathroom is hidden amongst the garden. This secret space with its beautiful claw bath, shower and heated pebble floor beckons you to enjoy it and relax. The enclosed garden with its many outdoor seating areas will invite you to rest awhile and enjoy the views. Whether you are looking for a cosy hideaway or a marvellous base for adventure trips, ‘Hillside Cottage,’ is well positioned. A ten minute walk will take you to the Burra town centre, a two minute walk will allow you to join the Heysen Trail and only a five minute walk will show you the views of Burra, from the lookout. Burra Heritage Passport

Be sure to grab the Heritage Passport Key from the Burra & Goyder Visitor Information Centre, for the kids we have the Scavenger Hunt sheet that is sure to keep them occupied…..

The Passport allows you access to nine locked sites, including the Monster Mine area, Redruth Gaol, the underground Unicorn Brewery cellars and the Dugouts. Free entry to Burra’s Museums during their opening hours is now included with the cost of the passport! A comprehensive guide book details 49 historic sites over an 11 km driving trail. Available seven days a week from the Burra and Goyder Visitor Centre.

Fossil Display

A fossil display of the world’s largest marsupial, the Diprotodon, may be enjoyed at the newly restored Burra Railway Station.

The Station is open from 11am – 1pm, 7 days a week.

Sir Hubert Wilkins Cottage

Mount Bryan was the birthplace of Sir Hubert Wilkins, one of Australia’s most daring aviators and eplorers. Visit the childhood home of adventurer and explorer, Sir Hubert Wilkins.

The homestead is located at Mount Bryan East, part of the Dare’s Hill Driving Circuit.

Drive north out of the Mount Bryan township along the Barrier Highway, and look for the Mount Bryan East Road on your right. Simply follow the signs to the homestead.

Visit at your leisure by collecting the key from the Mount Bryan Hotel (08) 8893 4010, or the Olde School Gallery.

A daylight visit is recommended as there is no power at the homestead.

Burra Railway Station

The Burra Railway Station is a great place to visit. Not only has it been lovingly restored from dereliction and showcases railway history, it is also a function centre, houses the Diprotodon display and boasts a unique bed and breakfast.

The Station is open daily from 11am – 1pm.
