Terowie Visitor Information Centre
Located 68 kilometres north of Burra, the historic township of Terowie is full of fascinating stories and well-preserved heritage. Established in 1872 by John Aver Mitchell, Terowie grew into an important railway junction in South Australia’s Mid North, playing a vital role in regional transport until the railway closed in 1970.
Today, visitors can still see many of the town’s original buildings, including the Terowie Hotel, the historic railway platform, the former railway cafeteria, and the Porters Building, all reminders of the town’s busy railway past.
The Terowie Visitor Information Centre is the perfect starting point to explore the area. Friendly local volunteers can help you discover the town’s heritage sites, walking trails, and hidden stories.
