Crossing Goyder’s Line: A Changing Landscape
This drive traces a fascinating environmental frontier—Goyder’s Line of Rainfall—an invisible yet impactful boundary between reliable cropping land and true outback pastoral country. Named after Surveyor General George Goyder in 1865, this line still shapes life and land use today. As you travel along the route, you’ll witness this transformation first-hand, from lush cereal-growing farmland to the hardy saltbush plains beyond.
