Tucked between Hallett and Mount Bryan East, Caroona Creek Conservation Park offers a glimpse into the rugged beauty of South Australia’s Mid North. Stretching over 54 square kilometres, the park protects a striking mix of landscapes from steep rocky ridges and calcrete hills to wide alluvial plains.
Located on the western edge of the Olary Plain, Caroona Creek marks the natural transition between the rolling Mid North hills and the dramatic Flinders Ranges gorge country. The northern section features the stunning Tourilie Gorge, where walkers can explore rugged terrain, rich geological formations, and an impressive variety of native flora and fauna.
The park is also a haven for birdlife, with over 90 species recorded, making it a rewarding stop for birdwatchers and photographers alike. Heysen Trail hikers will find several camping huts along the route, perfect for resting beneath wide open skies and soaking in the peace of the landscape.
Whether you’re hiking, camping, or simply seeking a quiet connection with nature, Caroona Creek Conservation Parkoffers an authentic outback experience just a short drive from Hallett.
